Harish Lavu, M.D., Joins The Department Of Surgery At Jefferson

He is  involved in clinical and basic science research with regards to pancreatic cancer and have experience with minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery to treat liver and pancreatic tumors. He has published numerous peer reviewed papers and book chapters in the field and am a member of all of the relevant specialty medical societies. Harish Lavu, M.D.,  joined the Department of Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 2008 He specializes in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. Dr. Lavu was a junior year Alpha Omega Alpha honoree and received his medical degree from the Albany Medical College in Albany, New York in 2000.  He received a Master of Science degree in physiology from Georgetown University in Washington, DC in 1995, and a Bachelors of Science degree in both biology and sociology from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York in 1994.  Dr. Lavu completed a residency in the department of general surgery at the UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles, California, while working at UCLA from 2000-2007.  He completed a fellowship in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Lavu has experience as an educator and administrator having served as a clinical lecturer in surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine while, at the same time, completing his fellowship there.  He also received the UCLA Department of General Surgery Medical Student Teaching Award in 2004 and was named administrative chief resident in the department in 2006. Dr. Lavu is board certified with the California State Medical Board, the Indiana State Medical Board, the Pennsylvania State Medical Board, and the Drug Enforcement Agency. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons Candidate Group and the American Association for Cancer Research.

Alpha Omega Alpha honorary medical society. Finished in the top 1% of medical school class. Scored in the top 1% of medical school board exams. Administrative Chief Resident in training. Medical student teaching awards. Medical school biochemistry and physiology prizes.
